HUMIDIFICATION DURING LONG OR SHORT TERM COOLED STORAGE OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IS IMPORTANT TO REDUCE EXCESSIVE MOISTURE LOSS AND QUALITY DEGRADATION.

The process of creating the cold storage uses equipment that reduces the moisture content of the room air. The low humidity levels will cause the produce to dehydrate and lose weight. Too much or too little moisture is harmful to produce. The proper amount of moisture follows a fine line. Too much can cause wilting and encourage frost, and with too little the produce drys out and can get freezer burn.

The use of ARP high pressure fogging systems can be applied to cold storage and ultra low oxygen storage rooms. The ARP system is designed to spray a fine micro-mist into the cold environment while preventing moisture accumulation on the produce. The ARP system is self contained and can control multiple areas or rooms from a single pump station. Control of each room is by the ARP microprocessor controller using individual room humidity sensors.
